‘Liberation Day’ has brought chaos to global stock markets, torpedoed confidence in the US as a reliable partner and set fire to business confidence - as well as to people’s pensions and long-term plans.
President Trump keeps maintaining that the US is on the cusp of a new golden age, assuring his followers on social media that the cunning plan is working and that everyone will surely bend at the demand of the leader of the free world.
I’ll post about that tomorrow - and will look at some of the opportunities he thinks might be possible, while explaining how pretty much all of those are pies in the sky. And I’ll write about how the fires that he and his team of merry men started are in danger of consuming the arsonists.
Here, though, are some quick observations about how Trump’s confidence in his own abilities, as well as his Baldrick-level understanding of trade deficits are going to make Americans less healthy, more lonely and less alert - as well as poorer.
